State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) is directly affiliated to the State Council with main responsibilities including: organizing and coordinating IPR protection work nationwide and improving the construction of IPR protection system; standardizing the basic orders of patent administration; planning and formulating drafts of IP and patent laws and regulations and so on. WIPO Lex is an electronic database which provides access to intellectual property (IP) laws and treaties of the Members of WIPO, the World Trade Organization (WTO) and the United Nations (UN). It also covers IP-related treaties administered by various multilateral and regional organizations as well as bilateral treaties which contain IP-relevant provisions. WIPO Lex aims to provide legal information which is authoritative, comprehensive and up-to-date. Given the scope of coverage, the database is a work-in-progress and updating of entries is done on a continuous and regular basis.
TRIPS: Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights
On December 11, 2001, China formally became a member of the World Trade Organization (WTO). As a member of the WTO, China has agreed to adhere to all of the agreements in force under the WTO. Specifically, China has agreed to adhere to the Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS). Information on the requirements of the TRIPS agreement can be found at the WTO's official website under Intellectual Property: Protection and Enforcement and TRIPS material.
